
Nicolet is one of the oldest cities of the province and has a large number of attractions that will charm you. On Boulevard Louis-Fréchette, the Musée des Religions presents exhibitions on the important religious traditions of the world. Not far from there, the parc littéraire L’arbre de mots pays tribute to the thirty writers who lived in Nicolet. Plaques with texts are installed along a path, and steel sculptures represent characters from different novels. Always on the same street, Les Pelleteurs de Nuages is an art gallery and a gift shop that houses the works of painters, photographers, engravers and glass, wood, metal and fabric craftsmen.
You will also surely want to visit the Musée historique des Soeurs de l’Assomption, in which you will find a collection of costumes, old furniture, paintings and religious objects. To discover the history and heritage of Nicolet, you can go on a guided visit. Relive 350 years of history with a guide or a historical character who will make you stroll in the streets of the city. Stop at the Maison Rudolphe-Duguay, which was formerly owned by the painter-engraver Rudolphe Duguay, considered as one of the masters of engraving in Canada during the first half of the 20th century. You will get to visit the ancestral house, the Atelier Ermitage and the exhibitions.
Then go to the Port-Saint-François, which has a beach and a quay. A nautical club and a campground are also located nearby and will allow you to do all kinds of outdoor activities. Not very far from there, on the Route du Port, two wood bridges cross a wooded area and marshes where you can observe a much diversified wildlife, thanks to a 9-meter-high tower. These bridges lead to lac Saint-Pierre where you will have access to the Réserve de biosphere. There, you will see 27 species of rare plants and 288 birds species. This reserve is the most important wild fowl migratory halt of the St. Lawrence River and the most important snow geese spring migratory halt. It also houses the most important heron nesting place in North America.
