Cap-Charles Centre de la navigation

Open from the beginning of June to the end of September

Here comes the ship!

Deschaillons-sur-St-Laurent is the place to be if you want to see the ships coming from afar. Every day, from more than 45 years, Cap-Charles' residents have been waving at all the ships sailing on the river. Because they see the ships coming in the distance, they have time to find out where they come from and then play their national anthem on more than 24 speakers spread here and there on the cliff. On top of the anthem, the residents wave their arms as a welcome sign. In 90% of the cases, ships will respond with their siren. If you visit the Centre de la navigation, you will probably see and hear this little production. Moreover, you will learn about the navigation history on the St. Lawrence River. Then, you will be initiated to the use of flags and to the international code. You will learn to distinguish the different kinds of sailing ships and will receive information about the merchandise they carry. Before you climb back in your car, you can use the picnic area as well as the pedestrian paths.
