The Fêtes Victoriennes are to Victoriaville what the New France Festival is to Québec City, but on a smaller scale. The Fêtes Victoriennes brings us back to the age of Queen Victoria, who ruled United Kingdom, Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 to 1901. This epoch is called the Victorian era since that sovereign ruled for more than 63 years, which as for today is still the longest reign of the United Kingdom. Many Victorian houses were built in Victoriaville during that epoch and among them, Sir Wilfrid Laurier's, the first French-Canadian to govern Canada in 1896. In order to bring back elegance, splendour and the habits of the era, the organizers invite extras and tourists to meet, for the 11th year, on Laurier Street West, which is lined with magnificent Victorian houses. Several activities are planned.
